Thorsten Fink appointed as new co-coach of Red Bull Salzburg.

Fink: “I’ll be leaving my successful young charges with a heavy heart but I’m delighted to be given the exciting opportunity to work with Giovanni Trapattoni.”

Thorsten Fink has been appointed as Red Bull Salzburg’s assistant coach with immediate effect.

The 39 year-old from Dortmund was in charge of Red Bull Salzburg’s amateurs last season and led them on a tremendous journey to the top of the table, finishing off by clinching the Regional League West title and securing promotion to the Red Zac Erste Liga.

'Thorsten Fink is to coach the Young Bulls in a memorable last match today before joining his new side on the road to their training camp in Schloss Pichlarn.

Fink had a long career as a German Bundesliga star at Bayern Munich, with his greatest success coming with the club’s 2001 Champions League victory.

Thorsten Fink took a course on football coaching at Cologne Sports College following his retirement from the playing field and took his first post as co-coach of Bayern Munich’s amateurs with Hermann Gerland.

Thorsten Fink’s successor as coach of Red Bull Salzburg Amateurs is to be unveiled next week.

Fink: “I’ll be leaving my successful young players with a heavy heart, but at least I will be able to stay in touch with the boys in my new role. The opportunity to be able to assist Giovanni Trapattoni in this crucial season is of course both tremendously exciting and a great honour.”
