UEFA road leads south to FC Sevilla or AEK Athens!

UEFA CUP 2007/2008 First Round Draw
Red Bull Salzburg v loser of FC Sevilla / AEK Athens.

The 2007/2008 UEFA Cup first round draw was made this lunchtime and set Red Bull Salzburg on course for a high-profile clash in the south of Europe.

A shortlist of possible opponents was drawn in the morning, consisting of Fiorentina (Ita), Bolton Wanderers (Eng), Rapid Bucharest (Rom), Lokomotiv Moscow (Rus) and the losers of the AEK Athens v Sevilla Champions League Qualifier.

Red Bull Salzburg Sporting Director Oliver Kreuzer and Team Manager Mark Lang were in Monte Carlo to watch the draw live and saw the losers of Sevilla v AEK Athens come out of the hat as the Austrian champions opponents.

Sevilla are favourites after winning the home leg 2-0. AEK Athens are therefore likely to be confirmed as opponents after the return leg in Athens on 3 September.

The two legs are due to be played on 20 September (away) and 4 October 2007 (Bulls Arena).

Trapattoni: “There are red apples in the Champions League and green apples in the UEFA Cup. Apples are still apples though!”

The first match will be beamed live to the Bulls Arena with 30,000 fans hopefully providing a genuine match day atmosphere.
