UEFA CUP, FIRST ROUND SECOND LEG. Red Bull Salzburg v AEK Athens, Thursday 4/10/2007 – 8:30 pm Bulls Arena.
The Bulls are brimmed with optimism as they look to do the improbable in the second leg of their UEFA tie with AEK Athens.
To be brutally honest, plenty of optimism is needed after the 0-3 debacle in Athens and the Champions’ erratic performances so far this season.
BUT: Ø Red Bull Salzburg have at least 90 minutes to claw the deficit back.
Ø Red Bull Salzburg have the advantage of playing on their usual artificial pitch with some specialists on this surface at their disposal.
Ø Completing a sensational comeback will allow the champions to forget about their streaky start to the season.
Ø AEK Athens, although strong, are no better than the following European sides that have already been beaten in the Bulls Arena this season: o FC Zürich (2-0) o Valencia (1-0) o FC Arsenal (1-0) o Shakhtar Donetsk (1-0)
And we all know that the most remarkable things can happen in football, particularly when nobody is expecting them.
All things considered, the Champions should therefore be able to go into Thursday’s match only able to win for themselves, the fans and for Austrian football.
