Champions triumph 3-2 in a hotly contested encounter in wintry conditions. Goals: Ilic (2), Sekagya; Keil, Mahop. Dudic has successful operation on right Achilles and plans spring comeback.
The Bulls encountered the Young Bulls this morning for a friendly at the Salzburg EURO 2008 Stadium.
Despite plummeting wintertime temperatures the match developed into a tasty and tense free-flowing battle.
The senior Bulls were shot into a 41st minute lead by Sasa Ilic. Michael Streiter’s young team had fought well up to this point and gained a deserved equaliser on the stroke of half-time through Erwin Keil.
The Red Zac Erste Liga side then stunned their older colleagues after the change of ends by racing into a 2-1 lead thanks to Louis Mahop.
The champions faced the prospect of losing a second match to their junior side in a matter of weeks (losing 3-2 last time). This time they were able to turn the game around however.
A Sekagya header and a successfully converted Ilic penalty (!) sealed a narrow victory for Trapattoni’s side.
At the same time as the friendly was being contested, Milan Dudic’s Achilles was being operated upon by Red Bull’s surgeon duo Dr. Jens Enneper und Dr. Helmut Klampfer. A new technique should allow the Serbian defender to have an easier recovery.
Dr. Enneper und Dr. Klampfer: “Dudic has been bearing a degenerating Achilles’ tendon for some time. His Achilles was comparable to a remote mountain village that has few ties with the outside world. The new technique has allowed us to place a motorway by the village so that he can have the best recovery possible.”
