Major League Soccer is entering its decisive end-of-season phase and the Red Bulls from New York have made the MLS Cup Final for the first time!
There are 30 matches in the USA’s MLS. The top teams at the end of the league season enter into playoffs and the winners of both playoffs contest the MLS Cup.
Red Bull Salzburg’s sister club beat Real Salt Lake City to give Juan Carlos Osorio’s team the chance to seal a successful end to a tough season. The New York Red Bulls are now to face Columbus Crew in Columbus on 23 November in the MLS Cup Final.
The Bulls had already made an entertaining piece of history this season. Goalkeeper Danny Cepero became the first keeper ever to score in Major League Soccer when he netted for the New York club from a free kick.
The Red Bulls’ form peaked just in time for the playoffs that saw them draw against Houston Dynamo (1-1) and then collect two wins (3-0 v Houston Dynamo and 1-0 v Real Salt Lake).
The win in Salt Lake City secured Red Bull New York’s spot in the MLS Cup Final. The final will be contested at 3:30 pm (0:30 pm CET) on 24 November at the Home Depot Center in Carson, LA County.
