The Bavarians have been one of the most successful football clubs in the world for more than four decades. To list all of the Munich club's triumphs would flatter them as much as serving them their beloved white sausages.
A short summary is allowed:
- Two-time World Club Champions
- Champions' League Winners
- Three-time European Cup Winners
- European Cup-Winner's Cup Winners
- UEFA Cup Winners
- 20-time German Champions
- 13-time German Cup Winners
- Five-time German League Cup Winners
- Three-time German Super Cup Winners
Legendary players include Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Mueller, Karl Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeness (just to name a few). The mark left by these legends on the club (formed in 1900) has not just been restricted to their footballing ability.
After hanging up their boots, these stars have helped to continue the club's success by coaching or lending their economic expertise.
After twice winning the League and Cup double in 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 under Felix Magath, there has been turbulence this season at a club that revels in and demands success.
New Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld should be able to lead the Munich side back on track for success in the remainder of the season.
Bayern Munich's current situation is indeed hardly drastic. They are in the Quarter Finals of the UEFA Champions League (v Real Madrid) and are placed fourth in the German Bundesliga. This is all the same not enough to meet the expectations of the Munich club.
Bayern will be seeing many of their former greats in Salzburg colours at the Bulls Arena. Giovanni Trapattoni, Lothar Matthaeus and Oliver Kreuzer as well as Thomas Linke and Alexander Zickler can look back on more than successful careers at Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich are coming straight to the Bulls Cup on Tuesday. The tournament falls between the Bundesliga games against Arminia Bielefeld this Sunday and against Alemannia Aachen next Saturday.
